Why use an automotive-only marketplace
· Roda Editorial · Updated
A general classifieds site lists cars next to furniture, phones and property. That works for a quick sale, but buying or selling a vehicle needs more than a title, a price and a few photos. A marketplace built only for vehicles can ask for the details that matter and let buyers filter by them. This post explains what that means in practice, and how to use it on Roda.
Vehicle details in a fixed format
On a general site, every seller writes the ad their own way. One ad lists the mileage, the next does not, and a third puts it in the photo caption. Comparing ten cars means reading ten different descriptions.
An automotive-only form asks every seller the same questions: brand, model, year, mileage, transmission, fuel type, body type, condition and location. When every ad has the same fields, you can line them up and compare like with like.
On Roda you can filter used cars by:
- Brand and model
- Price
- Year
- Mileage
- Transmission and fuel type
- Body type
- Condition (new, used or recond)
- State
Motorcycles, trucks, parts and tyres have their own fields. For example, tyres and rims can be filtered by size, and number plates are shown as a plate image instead of a photo.
Everything around the vehicle in one place
Buying a car is rarely one transaction. You might need an inspection, new tyres, a workshop for the first service, or a tow truck. Roda keeps these next to the ads:
- Workshops by state
- Tyre shops
- Towing
- Car wash and detailing
- Events such as track days, 4x4 trips and car meets
Service listings come from businesses that post on Roda. Call ahead to confirm opening hours and prices before you go, the same way you would with any business.
Clear seller types
Every ad shows who is selling. Private owners sell their own vehicle. Business sellers post under their company name, and get a business badge after Roda checks their details. Official dealers are authorised dealers for the brands they show. Each business has a page with all its active ads, so you can see the rest of a dealer's stock before you visit.
Seller type does not replace your own checks. Roda reviews ads before they go live, but it does not inspect vehicles or check their papers. Details such as accident history come from the seller.
Tools for buyers
- Saved ads: tap the heart on an ad to keep it in your Saved list.
- Save search: save a search with its filters and open it again later from your account.
- Recently viewed: find an ad you opened earlier.
- Contact options: chat on Roda, WhatsApp or call from the ad. Chat on Roda keeps the conversation in Messages.
Tools for sellers
- Posting an ad is free. Optional boost packages show an ad to more buyers for a set number of days.
- The sell form asks for the same fields buyers filter by, so your ad appears in the right searches.
- My ads shows each ad's status, including ads waiting for review, and lets you mark a vehicle as sold.
- Business accounts get a business page, sales team invites and service listings.
What it does not change
An automotive-only marketplace makes searching and comparing easier. It does not change the basics of a safe deal:
- See the vehicle in person, in daylight.
- Check that the name on the geran (registration card) matches the seller's IC.
- Get an inspection before you pay. See our PUSPAKOM guide.
- Never pay a deposit to someone you have not met for a vehicle you have not seen. Read how to avoid WhatsApp scams.
- Pay in full only when the JPJ ownership transfer is done.
