How it's worked out

The figure uses the rate table in JPJ's road tax (LKM) guide for private petrol and diesel vehicles owned by individuals. Up to 1,600 cc a car pays a fixed rate; above that, a base rate plus an amount for every cc over the band.

  • Saloon rates cover sedans, hatchbacks, coupes and wagons; the other rate covers MPVs, SUVs, pickups and vans.
  • Company-owned vehicles, hybrids, electric vehicles, Labuan, Langkawi and Pangkor use other rates. Check those with JPJ.
